Hunter McGuire School awards financial aid based on two criteria:
a. Financial needs of the candidate’s family
b. Candidate’s potential for excellence both as a student and as a member of the Hunter McGuire Community.
Financial aid is based on an annual assessment of the family’s financial situation. To apply, parents file a Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) with the School and Student Service for Financial Aid, sponsored by the National Association of Independent Schools and administered by the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey. The parents pay a fee of $22.00 for the service. Forms are available at the Admissions Office.
The Parents’ Financial Statement is a detailed form used to determine the amount each family can afford for a child’s education. The School Scholarship Service (SSS) processes the form and then sends a report to Hunter McGuire with a figure representing the SSS’s estimation of a family’s ability to pay tuition costs. This amount is subject to closer scrutiny and interpretation by the Hunter McGuire School Financial Aid Committee. While the SSS figure is not absolute, it is useful as a uniform, outside assessment of each family’s financial status.
Financial aid should be requested as soon as possible. Applications submitted promptly receive maximum consideration. Families are expected to file new forms each year. Copies of the parents’ most recent tax return with supporting schedules must be sent to the Head of School in order to complete the financial aid application.
Your financial aid application will not affect the admissions process in any way; however, assessment of a student’s potential contribution to the school community may be involved in determining the level of financial aid awards. All financial aid information is handled in a strictly confidential manner.
