Hunter McGuire School seeks families who desire a quality education, challenging curriculum and discovery-oriented environment for their children. The Admissions Committee evaluates each student’s potential for academic and personal success within the framework of our student-focused curriculum.
Applicants for kindergarten must be five years of age by October 1 of the enrolling year. Exceptions may be made for applicants whose birthdays fall between October 1 and October 15 on an individual basis.
Admissions Procedures
- Schedule a visit to tour the school through the Director of Admissions. It is recommended that interested parents initially visit the school without their child. This allows parents to ask questions and observe without distraction.
- Complete an application and forward the $45 application fee to the Director of Admissions. Click here to complete the application online or call 540-248-2404 to receive an application through the mail.
- Schedule a time for evaluation and classroom visit for your child. Evaluations take place throughout the year although primarily in January and February. The assessment, along with teacher recommendations, provides information about developmental readiness and academic achievement levels. No advance preparation is necessary.
- Give the appropriate Preschool / Kindergarten teacher recommendation form
or Grades 1-5 teacher recommendation form
to your child’s teacher to complete and return to Hunter McGuire School.
- Download attached transcript release form
and request the child’s current elementary school to forward his or her school records (transcripts and reports) to the Director of Admissions.
